With the Nationals having just taken place it seems an age ago that we visited Magor Raceway for the Gloucester League BAS Round Three but lets take a moment to remember what an excellent event we experienced. With Graham Bennett at the helm and a small but mighty team alongside him, the Magor Raceway was well and truly put back on the map. No sign of the numbers dropping as the Series unfolds, we had approx. 580 drivers taking part in the round with semi-finals in classes 1, 7 and 8 this time. Although day 1 was a long day with ladies second heats having to be carried over, credit where credit is due, it’s no mean feat getting through that number of drivers but the day two programme ran at pace and some excellent finals were concluded in a timely manner. Many of the Gloucester team would not have experienced running an event of such size but they did not let anything phase them and proved they are more than capable of running with the best of them.
Up North now we go to the experienced Yorkshire Dales club albeit now under a new chairman. No stranger to racing however, Sue Nicholls now heads up the team and we have no doubt this will be another strong BAS Round. As the Series now unfolds you might expect to see the numbers start to ease a little especially due to the northern location however we’re fresh off the back of what was arguably the best Nationals ever and drivers are surely eager to get right back out there on track to prove their worth!
In a change to the normal programme, Yorkshire Dales published a poll to gauge interest in Ladies racing before the Men at this round and the outcome is go! With a need to run quieter classes first thing and again later in the evening expect to see some other changes to the normal programme as YD ensure they keep their neighbours happy while still getting through the busy programme. The venue remains the same as in previous years BAS and National Championships; Hillside Farm, Thornborough, Bedale, North Yorkshire, DL8 2RE. Gates open 10am Friday 16th August, Juniors please ensure you get a pass at the gate for signing-on with. For further information check out the BAS Facebook page or that of Yorkshire Dales Autograss Club.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the cancellation of the UK Autograss Series Round 4 and the unsettled weather forecast this week, BAS Round 4 is only open to those BAS registered and/or not registered to take part in the UK Round 4. We hope you understand that in unsettled weather, the Yorkshire Dales club do not need an extra 400 cars turning up at their meeting! Apologies for any inconvenience, but please work with the club on this as it is in the best interest of them and the meeting as a whole.
