Go Go Go!!

Registration for the 2017 British Autograss Series is now closed and what a line-up we have for this years Seres. There’s a fantastic aray of experienced hosts plus our exciting new host for Round One, Mallow Autograss Club, and with the calibre of driver & machinery as high as ever the standard of racing will be phenomenal. We ended the 2016 season with some of the closest title challenges, and one of the best rounds we’ve ever seen, and we have every faith we’ll take up where we left off.

As we’ve come to expect, Men’s classes Eight and Seven have the highest number of entrants with 60 and 50 drivers respectively. Class Five has proved more popular this year with 34 entries and the other Mens classes (except Class Four once again) achieving 20 – 30 entries. Of the Ladies Classes, it’s Class Seven and Eight that are also most popular with 14 and 13 registered drivers respectively, with Classes One and Five not far behind with 11 entries. Meanwhile, in the Juniors it is the Specials that have proved substantially more popular this year with their 25 entries to the Saloons 13. Throughout the entries its safe to say there’s a fair amount of Irish drivers, no doubt finding the first round on their home ground very appealing.

Last years Junior Champions have graduated to Men’s Classes leaving the door open for new Champions there, meanwhile Class Eight and Nine Champions, Cameron Mills and Phil Cooper, have both switched to Class Seven this year where only one of them, or perhaps neither of them, can be Champion of that class! In the Ladies, Class Six Champion Sarah Haigh has moved to Class Seven, and Sandra Jones leaves Class Seven, all other Champions return to the same class to defend their titles.

On the strength of a great closing round last season, there are few better ways to be starting the season than at an exciting new venue over in Ireland. The enthusiasm and committment of the Mallow Club and its fellow Irish Clubs is second to none. It is a delight to see such excitement from the hosts and their desire to please all who will make the journey to their beautiful country. If you are not already following the on Facebook it is worth doing so to see all of their information and updates, likewise the BAS Facebook page will share as much of the important event information as necessary including previews and a build up to the Series.

With winter re-builds galore and lots of new drivers and machinery appearing in all classes it’s impossible to start talking about who’s going to do what at this stage but from what we’ve seen so far and with five excellent clubs to visit this season we are clearly in for a great series. Here’s a reminder that the dates and hosts are:

Round 1 Mallow 29th/30th April
Round 2 South Wales League 17th/18th June
Round 3 Stroud 15th/16th July
Round 4 Border Counties 9th/10th Sept
