The legendary Corbett takes another victory and another title in class four.

From round two onwards, the championship standings had a familiar face as Rob Corbett took control in the points. This weekend, he made the title official for the third time, and took his second straight overall men’s title too.
It was Mark Uka who led the class after Scunthorpe, but a poor second round allowed Corbett to take control, and Corbett had almost put it out of Uka’s reach after round four. A strong start to this event secured the title, but Corbett pressed on regardless and put himself at the top of the table after the heats.
In the final, there was a drag race to the first corner between Huw Jones and the green Micra and the two were side by side into the first corner. Corbett ran a little wide with Jones to his left, so Jones was sent wide too, which should’ve allowed Jake Bartlett through into the lead.
The young star, who has unsurprisingly risen to prominence in his first year in the adult class, looked like he had a good line to slip up Corbett’s inside and take advantage. He left a small gap on his inside however, and on the exit of the turn Uka made brief contact with Bartlett’s rear which nudged him sideways and ruined his momentum, handing the advantage back to the two Welshman who continued side by side.
Corbett was best placed to take the lead through the pits bend, but we were then treated to one of those sensational battles that have become so familiar between the two Micra-mounted Welshman.
Jones tried lap after lap to find a way past, assessing a variety of lines and angles, drawing alongside his rival a few times, but he was unable to promote himself and Corbett took a slender victory with Jones still on his tail.
Bartlett had continued in third for a few laps, before a brief nudge on the back of Jones put him slightly sideways and then the applied opposite lock speared him to the left, out towards the perimeter. He rejoined at the tail end but was ultimately a non scorer after receiving a black flag, which was an unfortunate end to an excellent year for the rising star. Uka was the immediate beneficiary of Bartlett’s error and held third to the chequer, having not quite been able to catch up to his warring fellow countrymen in front.
Behind Uka, Duane Procter and Adam Henley were fairly close to each other, but finished in fourth and fifth respectively, with Stephen Turley running just ahead of Sam Green. Bartlett passed Turley into sixth as the race neared completion, but then the position was reclaimed by the Kentish driver because of Bartlett’s penalty.

This is one of many classes with a disappointingly small entry, but nevertheless we have enjoyed some good racing this season with the race wins being shared between Donna Forrest, Gwen Reeves and Lisa Cooper, though the latter was a non-starter this weekend.
Title favourite Donna Forrest put herself top of the table in qualifying, and out-dragged Reeves up the start straight in the final, but in running wide in the first turn she allowed the red Micra through into the lead then slotted into second as she rejoined the racing line.
Forrest remained at least a car length behind for a few laps before falling away from the leader and then ultimately down to third as Zoe Coupland was able to promote herself at mid-distance. The trio then spread out with the three drivers holding their respective positions to the chequer, Forrest having already secured the title before the final was run.
