GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Round one is about to be staged by the perfect hosts.

In the post-split era of the sport, the Kent Cams/Simpson Race Exhausts British Autograss Series goes from strength to strength. We felt last year had a healthy entry; a number of attendees that kept the quality of racing high but that could allow the events to be timely. With 618 drivers entered for the 2015 series and five old hands at the helm, the expectation for the season has now been heightened considerably.
Where we were expectant that the Scunthorpe season opener would be near faultless last year and then let down a little, though this wasn’t the fault of the club themselves, it’s almost impossible to have the same fear about this weekend. What sticks in the memory from their third round event is the way the team worked so efficiently together; everybody had a job and a place to be; the marshals experienced and knowledgeable with the ablity to make an informed, respectful and fair decision, and the camera system utilised properly and efficiently to prove it’s worth and rightful place in the series.
The issues with it were in part a contributory factor to the problems that beset the first two events, but used to its full potential it’s proved to be a huge asset to the fair running of an event and Carl Smith was the one to underline that last year. Communicating well with his on-track team from in the camera room, they produced a brilliant event, with the working members elsewhere on the field contributing to its smooth running also.
We may also have the benefit of gaining a few racers who couldn’t make the cut-off for the UKAC in time, but irrespective of how many are cars at the event the club can comfortably cope with any kind of turnout, and provide an excellent event for both drivers and spectators. If you’re reading this as a prospective racer who hasn’t entered for the Series and might have missed registering for the UKAC too then come and join what promises to be an excellent weekend with the best racers in the country, but it looks like you might need your RB1’s…

For more information and details about the event, visit the club’s website, or the Facebook page, where you can also find details about the Cash Shootout on Bank Holiday Monday.
